Welcome to Frosted Formations!

As I've become more serious about cake decorating, I've decided to start a blog to display all my creations. I've loved making these cakes and loved the memories of the people I've shared them with!

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

A Father's Day cake for my dad. The fondant is getting better and better. . . the black fondant is actually chocolate fondant . . . and tastes really good!

A milkshake cake for my friend Amy's coworker. It doesn't look like it, but it's pretty big. It's about 7 inches wide and 18 inches high at the top of the sign. There's a wooden stake through the whole thing to keep it upright.

This cake was for my coworker Cera who's been bugging me for months to make her a slot machine cake.

This cake is pretty fun. If you watch the video below, I explain why I did this cake. Basically it was for Courtney Babcock's birthday and I made it in honor of the fact that she works with dead bodies in the Coroner's office. I figured this was a little more tasteful than a real corpse cake . . . I made my own fondant for this cake, but sadly, I may have made it a little too dry and the weather was really hot so it made the fondant crack a lot.

The upside is that this cake really works. As in, I took apart the real game and pulled out the battery pack, speaker and light bulb and hooked it up to wire I strung through Cornelius' body. (Yes, my roommate Dianna and I dubbed him Cornelius the Corpse.) So all this begs the question: am I a better baker or a better engineer?

This cake was for Sarah Hammond's birthday. I replicated her bedroom and new couch! Check out her blog for a picture of the inspiration!

I feel like these are the cakes that show where I was really getting better in my details as I continued to branch out into using fondant more and just getting more practice.

This was a cake I made for a woman at my work. I had offered it in a charity auction. I never found out if her daughter liked it or not . . .but I thought it was cool!

This was for my friend Debra who's an architect by trade. . . I found these candles at the craft shop and went a little more abstract on this design.

This was a cake for a double party. It was Tod's birthday and Julie was leaving. I found songs about birthdays by guys named Tod . . .and songs about leaving by Julies. The whole turntable theme came about because Tod's an awesome DJ!

This was a graduation cake for Jamie, Ben, Robin, KJ and Aaron! One side is for BYU and the other is for UVSC.
Okay, these have to be some of my favorite cakes. I love cakes with gum paste flowers. Gum paste can be pretty tricky, but is seriously worth it when it works out! I got a Wilton gum paste kit from the craft store and have really enjoyed learning how to make the different types of flowers. My biggest tip is that the right tools make all the difference. Having very good floral arrangement tools will help immensely.

This cake was for my friend Amy's birthday. I also made the inside of this cake with ice cream layers. Because the flowers last a long time, I was able to reuse some of them between these cakes.

This cake was for my "Aunt" Katherine last year. It was her very own garden cake.

This cake was for my littlest sister Emma. A cute cake for a cute girl!

This was another cake for my friend Jeff. These were the very first gum paste flowers I did. . . I definitely improved on the second time around even though these aren't bad.

This cake is completely gluten-free and was made for my friend Julie. And it even tasted good!

This cake was for Lindsey when she turned 24 . . . hence the 24 theme. Even Jack Bauer can't get a cake this cool! :)

This was for my coworker Alai. He was the BBQ genius at work.

Chesney and Julie graduated!

Jamie got a My Little Pony pan and I had to make her one for her birthday.

This was my first cake with fondant. My friend Nate talks in his sleep so I figured this was a fun cake for him.

This cake was done for my friend Jeff who is a wonderful guitar player. My favorite part of this is the signature.

This cake was created from a dual themed birthday party. Yes, I managed to make a cake for a basketball and killer whale themed party.

This was for Ben. He was so considerate to have a birthday near the release of one of the Harry Potter movies. The whole cake is made of edible candy except for the poles which are candles.

This was for Jamie. She loves elephants. . . a lot!

Kit's birthday. He had a "jail bird" themed party.

These are the first cakes I did in my first cake decorating class back in 2004. As the cakes get newer, you can see that they get a little more detailed and professional looking.
